I haven't found a way to go that would guarantee it would be over. I'm always afraid I'd screw up the suicide and be worse off than I am now. And then spend the rest of my life agonizing about how much of a screw-up I am that I couldn't even kill myself right.
Other than that, the search for meaning keeps me going. Although I'm beginning to wonder if there is any meaning at all. Perhaps there is no point, no greater purpose. Doesn't greater purpose suggest some kind of design? And doesn't design suggest a creator? Been there, done that. Not interested.
Or if we evolved, to what end? And if there is no purpose, no point, does it really matter if any of us are here at all? Kinda kicks the whole "I am a unique and beautiful snowflake" idea to the curb, now doesn't it?!

What keeps you from killing yourself?
by AlmostAtheist inevery once in a while, the whole "futility of life" thing washes over me and something inside of me mentions the suicide option.
not that it's ever seriously considered, but one of the low-level accounting-types in my head quietly sends around a "worst-case scenario" memo that everyone reads, then dismisses.. after all, things always perk up.
"but," reminds the pessimistic little guy that should've been fired years ago, "they always go back down, too.

It may not bring down the organization as a whole. But the organization is made up of individuals. And if issues like this get even one individual thinking that maybe the wts isn't "the truth" then it makes a difference. I believe in the ripple effect.

Purely anecdotal, but in my years of working with children, I've heard a few talk about their lives "before I was in Mommy's tummy." I find their experiences quite detailed. In my experience these children were always around age 4 or 5. Although I've been told by some parents that their children have spoke of their "previous life" as early as age 3. Not sure what to make of it. I'm open to all that is.

To all the mothers on JWD...
by misspeaches inanyone who has been raised as a jw will most likely be able to relate somewhat to this.. my mother was bringing three children to the meeting and had an unbelieving mate.
she was incredibly strict.
i was an extremely unhappy child and teenager.

I can relate misspeaches. I too struggle with not wanting to have kids because of fears of repeating my mother's mistakes. And yet I love kids so much. It's a decision I keep grappling with. Thanks for reminding me that there are so many success stories right here on jwd.
